On September 4, 1997, Masimo Corporation announced a
licensing agreement under which Schiller AG Corporation will integrate Masimo's
pulse oximetry signal processing and sensor technologies into its current and
future products. Schiller AG is a leading manufacturer of patient monitoring
systems and electrocardiographs in Switzerland and is adopting Masimo Signal
Extraction Technology (Masimo SET®) to strengthen its pulse oximetry
monitoring capability.
"We are always striving to provide our customers with the best
available technology so that they can deliver the highest standard of care
possible to their patients," commented Alfred Schiller, President and CEO of
Schiller. "The problem of motion artifact, particularly in combination with low
peripheral blood perfusion, has long plagued pulse oximetry, particularly in
emergency and ambulatory situations, where most of our products are used. Masimo
has delivered the first and only real solution to these problems. With Masimo
SET, our monitors will now be capable of giving continuous real-time measurement
in the most difficult of circumstances."
Joe E. Kiani, President and CEO of Masimo Corporation, stated,
"Schiller is an innovative supplier of advanced monitoring equipment tailored to
meet the challenging needs of today’s healthcare environment. Our partnership
with Schiller is a further indication that Masimo SET is becoming the new
standard in pulse oximetry for monitoring patients at risk of respiratory
complication. We are delighted to have Schiller as a long-term partner and look
forward to working with Schiller to expand the utility of pulse oximetry to new
sites and applications."
